Biggest open class action settlements
Open settlements ranked two ways: by total settlement fund, and by the most one person can get according to the official notice.
Two ways to size up a settlement: the total fund, and the most an individual can get according to the official notice. A large fund is split among everyone who files, so it doesn't always mean a large payment. Rankings use only the dollar figures in each official payout description; settlements whose notice gives no dollar figure aren't ranked. Only file for settlements you qualify for: claim forms are signed under penalty of perjury.

Which open class action settlement is the biggest?
By total fund size, the largest open settlement on our list is RealPage rent price-fixing (renters), with a fund of $359,925,000 according to its official notice. A big fund doesn't mean a big check, because it's split among everyone who files a valid claim, after fees and costs the court approves.
Does a bigger fund mean I'll get more money?
Not necessarily. Pro rata settlements divide the fund among valid claims, so a huge fund with millions of class members can pay less per person than a small fund with few. Payments based on what you spent or paid also vary from person to person.
How are these rankings made?
We use only the dollar figures in each settlement's payout as the official notice states it. Figures of $100,000 or more are treated as the settlement fund (or fund cap); smaller figures are per-person amounts, ranked by the highest one stated. Settlements whose notice gives no dollar figure aren't ranked. Voucher values aren't counted as cash.
Are the per-person amounts guaranteed?
No. Many are maximums ("up to") or estimates that can rise or fall with the number of claims. Read each settlement's payout details, and confirm on the official site.
Where do I file?
Only on the official settlement website, and filing is always free. Each card links to our detail page and to the official claim form.
